Former German Minister of Justice Visits CUPL

On the morning of December 16, 2013, at Xueyuan Lu Campus, Vice President Zhu Yong met with the visiting Prof. Herta Däubler-Gmelin, Former German Minister of Justice.

Vice President Zhu Yong first welcomed Prof. Gmelin to visit CUPL and give lessons for students enrolled in the Chinesisch-Deutsche Institut für Rechtswissenschaft (CDIR). He then provided a brief history summarizing joint achievements made between German universities, German academic institutions and our university in areas such as talent cultivation and academic cooperation over the years. He said that as the longest Sino-foreign cooperative institution at CUPL it was a successful and outstanding example of Sino-foreign cooperation in running shools. He added that the CDIR was second to none in the main stream aspects of legal education for Germany and in the cultivation of top-notch legal talents across China. This could not have been achieved without the elaborate maintaining efforts showed by the two sides in the process of administration, as well as the high quality students enrolled in that School and its well-qualified Faculty. He hoped Prof. Gmelin would, as always, maintain and support the Sino-German exchanges of our university. Prof. Gmelin expressed his appreciation for the impressive achievements obtained by our university in the fields of Sino-German law, cultural and academic exchanges. And he spoke highly of our students’ expertise and their foreign language proficiency. He expressed his hope that CUPL would continue to cultivate elite students in the future to make contribution to the society.
